Quick note, for those of you who are new to Crossfit Southwest. Athletes from around the world are currently competing in the Crossfit Games this weekend. You can watch live and archived feeds of the competition online by following this link….
It’s been a fun and challenging week at Crossfit Southwest so far; complete with some awesome guest trainers on top of the usual intense workouts. I definitely want to thank everyone that’s come through this week to put in work.
On a side note, I wanted to share an article I came across a few weeks ago. I’m always interested in different training tools and methodologies (but I’m weird that way). One method in particular that’s been getting more press as of late is the Bulgarian weightlifting style. I won’t go in to the particulars of the style, (the article I’m referring to can be found here), and I’m not suggesting that everyone should use the training protocol detailed there. However, I do believe the results obtained are further proof that we sometimes underestimate what our bodies are capable of.
I might have a wee bit of a caffeine addiction. I blame growing up in the coffee capitol of the world, or the fact that coffee is the most wonderful substance known to mankind—whichever.
In any case, here is a well laid out article in defense of caffeine. Feel free to pull it out next time someone gives you a hard time about that 4th cup of joe.
And, as has been the case for the last month or so, apologies for not updating the blog more consistently. Lots going on, and I’ve been busy doing things. Like training people. Hopefully, things will start to become more organized as the school year starts back up and schedules get set.
Not really sure how to categorize this article, but I figured that there might be a few ‘back in the day’ CFSW Alumni that would like to see this.
For everyone else, Jason is a bit of a legend around here. You might have heard the stories about the backflip burpees, benchless bench press, weightlifting in the parking lot of his job during lunch, etc.
The benefit event for Lauriel Luther will be going down August 13th at CrossFit 480 in Scottsdale. I’ve mentioned Lauriel’s story several times on this blog, but suffice to say she is a friend, and I’m going to be supporting this. I’d love to have a group from CFSW attend, please let me know.
For anyone interested in competing, please register soon. The event will be capped at 60 competitors, not sure how much space is left. Also, if anyone is interested in judging, please let me know.
I would love to make this a successful event! Thanks for your help.
**We celebrated yesterday with a version of the Fight Gone Bad workout, known as ‘Fight Gone Better’. Scores for those who recorded theirs on the board are below.
What makes this version “better”? Specifically, the Sumo Deadlift High Pull can put the shoulders into a compromised position, especially as you fatigue and form breaks down. By subbing in a power clean, you get the same basic movement, with a lot less stress. I could explain in greater detail, but I couldn’t say it any better than this: 'I heart my supraspinatus', from the folks at Whole 9.
