East Valley CrossFit will be hosting the annual Barbells for Boobs fundraiser on October . This is a benefit for Mammograms in Action, which provide breast cancer screenings for low-income and uninsured men and women. Definitely a worthwhile cause, and a fun workout.

Thanks to everyone who came out for FGB6 on Saturday! Despite enforcing movement standards (which lowered everyone’s score), we had some good numbers put up! And extra congratulations to those first-timers who tackled their very first FGB.
Thanks for the input everyone! I tried to accommodate as many requests as possible on this order, but you know that old saying about not being able to please everyone all the time. Hopefully, we got enough variety that everyone will be able to find something that they like.
For the guys, we got a few of the poly/spandex dri-fit-type shirts like the one that was at the gym. We also went with a 50/50 fitted T shirt from Nextlevel, couple of different colors.
Ladies, the overwhelming majority of Tank Top voters wanted a racer back style, so we went with the same Bella tanks we ordered before. We also got a T-shirt style from Nextlevel.
We had several suggestions (regular tanks, long sleeve Ts, hoody Ts, etc.), but I’m not sure about the demand. One thought would be to load up some of our artwork to Cafepress, and you would be able to order whatever you wanted one or two at a time. The downside of that is that you’ll be paying a lot more per item, and it takes a few weeks. Any opinions?
Workout of the Day
Clean and Jerk
Focusing on pulling the bar from the floor and the split jerk
Reps Gone Bad
Still prepping for the FGB6 fundraiser coming up! In this version, you select a number of repetitions (15, 20, or 25) and complete that number at each station before rotating to the next. 3 rounds, with 2:00 rest between rounds.
Here’s a cool video of George St. Pierre training at a gymnastics facility. I doubt anyone here will be surprised when he talks about how hard gymnastics training is, and how it is helping him in the UFC. That’s a bad man right there, folks.
Workout of the Day
Pullup Ladder (1 rep, rest. 2 reps, rest. etc.) Max reps in 20 min.
If anyone has any photos that they would like to send us from this weekend (or any other time, for that matter), we have a cool new system for submitting. Just email the photo to firstname.lastname@example.org, and it will be uploaded to the site (after moderation). It’s just that easy.
Thanks to all the photographers out there. But remember, keep it classy—we’re a family site!
First of all, thanks to everyone who came out for the 31 Heroes workout today. Blood was shed, but as a friend said, “remember who you’re doing it for”. Again, thank you to everyone who participated, cheered on, BBQ’d, and helped clean up.
And checking in with our resident Super Hero, Sara and her brother finished in 7th place in the ‘Toughest Competitor Alive’ competition at the World Police and Fire Games. If internet postings can be trusted, they were the highest placing team from North or South America!
Pretty great weekend, any way you slice it.
REMINDER: We will be holding only one group class on Monday, at 10 am. Power Hour folks are welcome to come around that time, I will probably be staying until around 11:30 or 12 to finish the workout.
I’ll be showing up around 0800, intention is to start the first heat around 0830. We’ll run heats every 35 minutes or so as needed. We have a few confirmed teams that will be closer to 1100. I’d like to wrap it up by noon.
We will BBQ afterwards, please feel free to bring a dish or something to share. BBQ will run from whenever we start until the last people leave.
Feel free to bring along friends and family, but keep in mind that it’s supposed to be warm tomorrow, and there will be a lot of people doing a lot of things. Please keep an eye on kids and dogs.
Finally, here’s some motivation for your Friday afternoon.
Winner of the women’s Hammer Throw competition (note the helmet) at the World Police and Fire Games in New York. Less than a meter from the record.
”Yeah, I’m wearing a Thor helmet. So What?”
Workout of the Day (8/31)
Front Squat x 8-12 (x4)
Kettlebell & pushups to finish
Workout of the Day (9/1)
Gymnastic skill work (handstand and bridge progessions)
(Pavlov’s Pullups involve a grease the groove approach to pullups and a running timer. Every 4:00 the timer sounds, drop whatever you’re doing and immediately do as many perfect pullup reps as possible. Continue with normal activity until the next round.)
Make sure your pullups are Ido Approved (tm). Check out this article (on facebook).
